Spotify is rolling out verified badges for artists to help distinguish real humans from AI
Spotify is enhancing artist profile transparency with its new Verified by Spotify badge, which signals that an artist’s profile has been reviewed and meets the platform’s criteria for authenticity and trust. This badge requires consistent listener engagement, compliance with Spotify policies, and evidence that the profile represents a legitimate artist. Profiles identified as mainly AI-generated or centered on AI personas are not eligible for this verification.
To ensure reliability, Spotify pairs its technical standards with human review, aiming to recognize genuine artists acting in good faith. Users will soon notice the Verified by Spotify badge, marked by a light green checkmark and accompanying label, on artist profiles and next to artist names in search results. The rollout is expected to be rapid, with over 99% of actively searched artists verified at launch, representing hundreds of thousands of creators. Notably, the absence of a badge does not mean a profile is ineligible, as updates are ongoing.
In addition to the verification badge, Spotify is launching a new beta section across all artist profiles. This section features details such as an artist’s career milestones, recent releases, and touring activity, giving listeners more context and clarity as they discover new music.
