KDE Plasma 6.7 will include background apps portal, sharper zoom upscaling, and much more
KDE Plasma 6.7 has entered its soft feature freeze, meaning no newly-written features will be merged as developers focus on finishing features already in progress. This step clarifies the scope for the upcoming release and ensures stability is a priority.
Among the planned updates, Plasma 6.7 introduces support for the background apps portal. This gives applications, especially those using newer GNOME technologies, the ability to appear in the system tray by leveraging the portal, aligning their icons with those of existing tray-compatible apps.
Following this, KWin’s Zoom effect adds a new content up-scaling filter. This enhancement aims to sharpen and upscale the viewport, producing smoother and less blocky visuals, especially when zooming in at higher levels. Users with visual accessibility needs should particularly benefit from these improvements.
Building on the desktop’s usability, the printers' widget will now show a badge that indicates the number of active and queued print jobs. Alongside these features, KDE Plasma 6.7 will also deliver additional user interface and experience improvements, as well as bug fixes to promote greater stability and usability.
