Atlassian will start collecting Jira & Confluence user data to train AI by August 17, 2026

Atlassian has announced changes to its customer data usage, effective August 17, 2026, impacting users of products such as Confluence and Jira. These updates will introduce new controls over how metadata and in-app data are used to train AI features. The company emphasizes that these policy changes are designed with privacy and security in mind, giving organizations greater transparency and control.

Ahead of the August deadline, Atlassian will begin a gradual rollout of data contribution settings on April 16, 2026. By May 19, 2026, all organizations will have access to these new settings, allowing administrators to review, align with stakeholders, and adjust their preferences within a 90-day window. In-app notifications will alert organizations when their options become available, and admins will be able to revisit and modify these settings at any time.

Atlassian states that it will de-identify and aggregate customer data before using it to improve its apps, with identifying information such as names and email addresses removed and safeguards implemented to prevent re-identification. For free and standard users, all data contribution settings will be enabled by default, while for premium and enterprise users, only metadata contribution is enabled by default, with in-app contributions turned off unless activated.
