Adobe launches a free Google NotebookLM alternative for study guides and group work
Adobe has released Acrobat Student Spaces in beta, a free AI powered study platform for students built into Acrobat. Similar to Google’s NotebookLM, it turns class notes, documents, links, and other uploaded materials into study aids such as study guides, mind maps, flashcards, and quizzes.
The platform also includes an AI Assistant that works as a study tutor, helping explain difficult concepts and answer questions. Adobe says its responses include interactive citations linked to the original source documents, so students can check where the information came from.
Student Spaces can also turn notes into short audio summaries and podcast style content, while supporting visual formats such as presentations, videos, and image based slides. It also includes a focus mode for solo study and shared spaces for group work, where classmates can collaborate on projects, exchange notes, and build presentations together in real time. You can try it here if you're interested.

I guarantee you that no students are using AI to "study".
If you mean that they are going to cheat with AI to do their homework, you are correct.
It’s frustrating that tools designed to support learning, like Adobe’s Student Spaces and NotebookLM, are being developed by corporations with a vested interest in data harvesting, money-making, and control over our lives. While these platforms offer impressive functionality and genuinely useful tools, it’s crucial to recognize the underlying power dynamics. These companies, driven by capitalistic priorities, are essentially manipulating the flow of information and, to some extent, democratic processes.
However, we need better, more personalized learning tools. Right now, these platforms are valuable, and we will still need professors and human expertise. The way they will teach will radically change, but transmitting knowledge in a truly tailored way. One that adapts to each individual’s needs, will have a far greater impact than simply replicating the structure of Wikipedia. All LLMs couldn’t have existed without that foundational effort, the open encyclopedia. These companies are building incredible software, but we need to push for something more open, more transparent, and less driven by profit. Knowledge is the foundation of a healthy, open, and free society. Learning is the way to acquire knowledge, and the process will change deeply.
