Apple Podcasts adds video support, audio switch, and offline downloads in beta

Apple has just announced that is adding video podcast support to Apple Podcasts in the first iOS 26.4 beta. Users can switch between audio and video versions of a show using Apple’s HTTP Live Streaming technology, with support for both horizontal and portrait playback. Video episodes can also be downloaded for offline viewing.

The update includes adaptive video quality that adjusts to network conditions and support for in episode ad inserts. These changes bring Apple Podcasts closer to video podcast experiences already offered by Spotify and YouTube.

Apple says the updated experience will roll out later this year on iPadOS 26.4 and visionOS 26.4, and it also plans to bring video podcasts to its web based podcast player.
