OPNsense releases Business Edition 26.10 with enhanced firewall and DNS capabilities

Deciso has announced the release of OPNsense Business Edition 26.10, marking a significant update to the enterprise-focused firewall platform. The new version builds upon recent architectural improvements introduced in the Community Edition while delivering exclusive Business Edition functionality aimed at simplifying network administration for business and enterprise environments. Among the standout additions is an integrated authoritative DNS server based on PowerDNS, a Business Edition exclusive that enables administrators to manage DNS zones and records directly within OPNsense, supporting reverse lookup zones, dynamic DNS updates, and primary/secondary configurations.

Beyond the new DNS capabilities, version 26.10 introduces several important enhancements to core firewall functionality. The release features a modernized Interface Assignments framework that replaces legacy modules, creating a more consistent management experience and laying groundwork for future API-driven configuration. Network Address Translation has been streamlined through migration to the modern Source NAT architecture, while OpenVPN security receives an upgrade with TLS-Crypt v2 support. Additionally, expanded KEA DHCP functionality now includes Dynamic DNS support, enabling closer integration with DNS infrastructure. Organizations using multiple OPNsense installations can continue leveraging OPNcentral for centralized management across distributed networks.
