qBittorrent 5.3 brings better torrent management, improved web UI, and numerous bug fixes

The qBittorrent project has released version 5.3, a broad maintenance-and-feature update that touches nearly every corner of the popular open-source BitTorrent client. According to the release highlights, the bulk of the work targets day-to-day torrent handling: users can now filter the torrent list by infohash, match all share limits with a single option, force-start torrents directly from filter context menus, and copy a torrent's path straight from the content tab. The “Torrent Options” dialog is now scrollable, the “Torrent Content Layout” dialog gains a resize-columns action in its header, and the “Deletion Confirmation” dialog has been reworked. Backup management for .torrent files has been revamped, and the “Torrent Creator” adds an “Ignore dotfiles” option alongside enhanced filename validation.

Networking and privacy controls also see meaningful additions. Administrators and power users gain the ability to ban IP ranges, log IP ban alerts, and enable the seeding_outgoing_connections libtorrent setting, while new advanced options cover maximum outstanding block requests per peer and allow_multiple_connections_per_pid. I2P support is expanded with a PeX setting and configurable inbound/outbound length variance, and the libtorrent setting for the WebTorrent STUN server is now exposed. Magnet link handling improves with support for the so parameter, and the client now avoids overwriting its configuration file when the file lacks write permissions; a small change that should spare users from losing settings.

On the interface and notification side, the “Statistics” dialog gains scroll bars plus new request latency and queued tracker announce metrics, the peers' list adds a contribution column, and the status bar settings are consolidated into their own group. Email notifications now support multiple recipients, with placeholder text and tooltips added to the relevant options' fields. Tray icon behavior is tidied up too: a monochrome tray icon can follow the system color mode, and on Windows the icon color is decided by the OS color scheme. Elsewhere, the update adds an “Open Destination Folder” button to the toolbar, makes the disabled speed graphs warning clickable, allows middle-click closing of search tabs, detects redundant quotes in Python executable paths, relaxes the plugin versioning rule, and adds a shortcut to “Default Apps” settings on Windows. The release additionally brings improvements to the web UI, the WebAPI, and RSS capabilities, along with numerous bug fixes.
