Meta unveils “Your Algorithm” to personalize your Facebook feed with AI-powered controls
Meta has announced a significant shift in how Facebook surfaces content to its billions of users, unveiling new AI-powered tools that allow individuals to directly shape their algorithmic feed preferences. The update, dubbed “Your Algorithm”, enables users to communicate their content preferences in plain language through a newly redesigned three-dot menu on each post, marking what the company describes as a “genuine leap forward” in personalized social media experiences.
The feature leverages large language models to process natural language inputs, allowing users to specify what they want more or less of in their feed and reels in real-time. According to Meta's press release, the system adapts instantly within the same session to reflect user preferences, combining freeform text input with existing engagement signals like likes, comments, and watch history. This represents a notable departure from traditional recommendation systems that rely almost exclusively on inferred behavior patterns rather than explicit user directives.
Industry observers may view this development as Meta's response to growing regulatory pressure around algorithmic transparency and user control, particularly in the EU and increasingly globally. By giving users more direct agency over recommendation systems, a move that echoes similar initiatives by TikTok and YouTube, the company positions itself at the forefront of the push toward more transparent and user-directed social media curation.

So basically, they want us to directly train their AI models by getting involved actively into that process and be rewarded with a nicer feed. Yep, I totally see this as a "genuine leap forward", forward a world were you give away your preferences and get meaningless thing in return. TLDR: Don't you ever trust Meta, or any Big Tech, with yoy data, no matter as "harmless" to share it with them may seem.
