AliasVault 0.31 brings faster vault synchronization and vault sharing with family members

AliasVault has released version 0.31, capping roughly four months of development with what the project describes as its “long-awaited major vault data model update”. According to the official announcement, the release introduces a rebuilt vault architecture and a new V2 API aimed at making synchronization substantially faster and more reliable, alongside what the project characterizes as additional improvements to vault security. The update also lays groundwork for features still to come.

The most visible change is a complete rebuild of the web app in React, which replaces the previous Blazor WebAssembly application. AliasVault says the new client reuses the same core components that already powered its browser extension, resulting in a more responsive experience when opening a vault, browsing items, or editing credentials. The upfront asset download drops from 40 MB to under 3 MB, and the announcement states the familiar design was deliberately retained, with quality-of-life tweaks most noticeable in the settings' interface. Behind the scenes, the project says it has refactored its client apps to share logic through an internal Rust core and a common component library, reducing duplication and easing maintenance.

The new vault architecture also carries technical support for sharing vaults among family members. The announcement says the core mechanisms, described as “90% of the work”, are already built into 0.31, but the feature is not generally available yet, as the interfaces and permissions model still need finalizing. AliasVault plans to begin a closed beta on its cloud environment in the coming weeks. Separately, self-hosted administrators gain the ability to invite new users while keeping public registration disabled, along with updates to the admin dashboard and other parts of the self-hosting experience. The release also bundles assorted fixes contributed through community feedback.
