addy.io overhauls mobile apps with system search integration, smaller app size, and more

Privacy-focused email alias service addy.io has launched comprehensive updates for its mobile applications, introducing iOS v2.7 and Android v6.6 following extensive ground-up rewrites of both codebases. The updates introduce shared features including system search integration for alias lookup directly from device home screens, domain DNS verification within the app settings, and one-tap sender blocklisting from failed delivery notifications. These enhancements aim to streamline daily workflows while addressing long-standing UI bottlenecks and improving overall battery efficiency through modernized architectures.

Platform-specific improvements deliver substantial benefits for each user base. Android users see dramatic gains with the app size slashed by 66%, shrinking from 17.7 MB to just 5.9 MB after rebuilding the networking layer on OkHttp and enabling R8 minification, a change that also accelerates network calls and reduces battery consumption. Additional Android features include a Quick Settings tile for instant alias generation and expanded responsive layouts optimized for foldable devices and tablets. Meanwhile, iOS users gain mTLS support for self-hosted instances with custom SSL certificates and bulk alias management capabilities, allowing multi-select activation, deactivation, pinning, labeling, and recipient changes across multiple addresses simultaneously.

The developer noted transparency regarding development methodology, confirming AI tools assisted portions of the rewrite while emphasizing that every architectural decision and commit underwent personal review and manual testing. Users experiencing edge cases are encouraged to report issues through GitHub repositories for rapid resolution.
