Atlassian acquires The Browser Company, creator of the Arc and Dia AI-powered browsers
Atlassian announced the acquisition of The Browser Company, developer of the now discontinued Arc Browser and its most recent product, the AI-based browser Dia, in a $610 million all-cash deal. The Browser Company will remain independent under Atlassian, with resources fully directed toward Dia, which launched its first public beta in June 2025.
Atlassian CEO Mike Cannon-Brookes described the browser as a central tool for knowledge work in the AI era, with plans to connect Dia’s capabilities to other products from the company like JIRA and Trello. Co-founders Josh Miller and Hursh Agrawal will continue as CEO and CTO, ensuring leadership continuity while accelerating Dia’s rollout across platforms. The agreement guarantees operational independence, job security for the entire team, and a commitment to keeping Dia’s vision at the center.
Miller emphasized that the partnership with Atlassian will allow faster hiring and development while expanding platform support. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of Atlassian’s fiscal year 2026.

At first I was hopeful the new company would see the value in Arc and bring it back, at least in a spiritual successor, but looking at the new company's goals it looks like that's not likely to happen.
If $34B from Chrome were a very cheap steal, more than half a billion in cash for Dia is literally a scam. Come on Atlassian, did you really understood have you bought? Not users, not data, not even an AI technology, but just a Chromium copy with a chatbot add-on enabled. You could have written your own browser, what The Browser Company won't never be able to, for less than 10% of this amount.
