WhatsApp launches new AI Writing Help tool for composing messages in different styles
WhatsApp is launching Writing Help, a new AI-powered tool that assists users with composing messages directly within chats. Similar to what we have already seen in several other AI assistants like the writing tools from Apple Intelligence, the new feature enables users to generate suggestions in a variety of tones, such as professional, funny, or supportive, which can then be selected or further customized.
The feature is built on Meta's Private Processing technology, which encrypts and anonymizes requests so that neither WhatsApp nor Meta can read or link content to user identities. WABetaInfo notes that messages processed this way are not stored on Meta’s servers and leave no digital trace.
To access it, users draft a message and tap the new pencil icon. Writing Help is optional and off by default, consistent with features like Message Summaries. The rollout begins in English for users in the United States and select countries, with expansion to more languages and regions planned in later on.
