ShareX 18.0 switches to .NET 9.0, upgrades history to SQLite, and ends Windows 7 support
ShareX 18.0 has been released as the latest version of this free and open source screen capture software, bringing a major platform shift by upgrading from .NET Framework 4.8 to .NET 9.0. As a result, ShareX now requires Windows 10 64-bit or newer, and support for Windows 7 has ended. Users should ensure their systems are compatible to access the latest release.
Alongside the platform change, ShareX overhauls its history and image history. These now use an SQLite database for improved performance and management, with automatic migration from JSON files. The update introduces batch import via folders and adds new item controls, such as buttons for favoriting, editing tags or items, renaming files, and deletion. Image history now offers options to display only images, view usage statistics, and features updated context menu icons for quicker navigation.
Building on usability improvements, the QR code tool provides a quick scan button, notification sound, and a scan region hotkey. Users working with video captures gain the ability to see video thumbnails and a play icon directly in the main window. New custom icons, menu restructuring, design changes in the About window, and a host of workflow tweaks, such as a scroll method for scrolling capture, further refine the experience. X/Twitter and Jira integration have also been removed from available upload destinations.
