Google to launch Gemini for Home smart devices with both free and paid tiers

Google has announced it will bring Google Gemini to Google Home devices in early access this October, launching on smart displays and speakers and replacing Google Assistant. The update introduces a subscription model with both free and paid tiers, though pricing and feature availability have not yet been detailed.

Gemini will use generative AI for more natural interactions, removing the need for rigid commands. It can handle everyday requests like trivia questions or thermostat changes, and its multimodal functions integrate with Nest devices, such as analyzing camera feeds to answer questions about home activity.

The rollout will also bring Gemini Live for more personalized conversations. More information on features and pricing will be shared soon.

Will this update roll out to all Google Home speaker devices? I have several of the original generation Google Home and Google Mini speakers around our home, from before the Nest branding began. They still work great and control my connected smart devices. So I really hope this will include them. I would be fine with a free tier of limited amounts of Gemini interactions. I really only use them for controlling certain devices by voice and asking basic questions.
