Penpot 2.8 released with multi-file token import/export, SVG speed boost, and much more
Penpot 2.8 is now available, bringing several workflow and performance updates to this web-based open-source design platform. Users can now take advantage of multi-file token import and export, supporting scenarios like separate JSON files for themes or metadata. This enhances workflows for teams managing complex design systems and represents progress toward fuller design token management, with typography token support in development.
In this release, Penpot has also refactored its approach to handling path data. As a result, users working with files that contain many scalable vector graphics (SVGs) will notice faster import, export, and a more fluid overall experience. A next-generation rendering engine is also under development to build on these improvements.
Additionally, Penpot 2.8 delivers a range of quality-of-life updates. AI-powered contextual help is now available directly in the workspace. The update allows layer deselection using Ctrl+Shift+Drag
, introduces system color scheme matching, adds the ability to copy objects as SVG via the contextual menu, retains ruler visibility across files, refreshes tooltip styling, and updates Google Fonts, among others.
This version also adds Serbian language support and brings other minor enhancements and bug fixes.
