Helldivers 2 will launch on Xbox soon as first PlayStation-published title on the console
In an unexpected move, Arrowhead Game Studios, the studio behind Helldivers 2, has announced that the game will launch on Xbox Series X|S on August 26, 2025, priced at $39.99. The reveal was accompanied by a new trailer showcasing Xbox support and expanded crossplay functionality. The game remains a third-person cooperative player-versus-environment shooter, focusing on team-based missions against alien foes in a satirical sci-fi setting.
The original release arrived on PlayStation 5 and PC in early 2024 and achieved surprising commercial success, especially on Steam, but its launch on Xbox is unexpected since Helldivers is a Sony-owned IP. This launch marks a notable industry milestone, as it is the first time a title published by PlayStation Publishing LLC will come to the rival platform, which many see as a possible signal of a broader multiplatform approach by Sony, echoing recent shifts from Xbox to diversify their titles’ reach. Notably, while MLB The Show, another Sony PlayStation title, appeared on Xbox in the past, it was published by MLB’s own label, not PlayStation.
Following earlier controversies over a required PlayStation Network login for PC users, Arrowhead Game Studios confirmed that the Xbox version will not require linking a PlayStation account. This directly addresses concerns that previously led to a reversal in the game’s Steam review ratings.
