Dropbox is shutting down its Dropbox Passwords manager service by October 2025
Dropbox has announced that it will discontinue its standalone service Dropbox Password starting August 28, 2025. From that date, the service will become read-only, allowing users to view saved credentials but not add new ones or use autofill. The mobile application will cease functioning on September 11, 2025, restricting access further for users who rely on smartphones and tablets.
The full shutdown, including dark web monitoring, happens on October 28, after which all stored data will be deleted. Following this final shutdown, all user data associated with Dropbox Passwords will be deleted from Dropbox servers, making migration essential for those wishing to retain login information. Dropbox recommends exporting your data and migrating to another password manager like 1Password, for which they have provided encrypted export instructions. This could also be a good opportunity to try Proton Pass and the conveniently freshly launched Proton Authenticator app.
IT admins can check which team members use Dropbox Passwords via the admin console and notify them. There’s no bulk migration tool, so each user must handle their own data. Notifications will also appear in the app and extension. Users should export everything before October 28 to avoid losing access permanently.
