Deepin 25 launches with refreshed UI, immutable architecture, UOS AI assistant, and more
Deepin 25 marks a substantial update for this Debian-based Linux distribution, introducing the DDE 7.0 desktop environment. This release updates the user interface with QML-based components, an improved control center, updated launcher & file manager, and broader touchpad gestures for a more streamlined experience.
Alongside UI changes, the new “Solid” immutable system architecture enforces read-only mounts on critical directories, reducing risks of accidental changes or malware. Automatic snapshots are created before system updates take place, supporting reliable system recovery and minimizing update-related disruptions.
Building on these system foundations, Deepin 25 now integrates the UOS AI assistant. Users can access translation, summarization, and text explanation features within the desktop, using either voice or text commands. These AI capabilities are available even when offline, and are deeply integrated for contextual assistance across workflows.
Additionally, Deepin debuts Linyaps, its containerized application format. This format supports compatibility across seven major Linux distributions, with direct access to more than 5000 software packages. Furthermore, users can install subsystem images for Debian 12, Ubuntu 20.04 and 24.04, Arch, and Fedora 41/42 directly from the Deepin app store.
