Microsoft drops developers fees for individualson Microsoft Store, now free to publish

Microsoft is removing all sign-up and submission fees for individual developers who wish to publish applications on the Microsoft Store for Windows 10 and Windows 11. Beginning in June, independent developers will be able to list their apps at no cost. Previously, Microsoft charged a one-time $19 fee for individual accounts, which will now be waived.

The fee waiver was revealed at the Build 2025 developer conference and further detailed in the official annoucement. Microsoft is now the first major global app store provider to completely remove developer publishing fees for individuals, unlike Google Play Store $25 one-time fee or Apple App Store $99 annual subscription.

The company expects this update to attract more independent app creators to the Microsoft Store, especially on Windows 11. It’s also worth noting that the waived fee applies only to individual developers, while organizations are still required to pay a $99 listing fee.

It's August now, and Microsoft still charges a fee for new individual registrations :(

A better incentive would be to bring back Microsoft Advertising. I lost $450-$800 per month when they cancelled it and I couldn't get any of the two alternatives to work. And then Microsoft unpublished my apps/games when I tried pushing updates to remove the big empty ad spaces.
