Immich 1.133 migrates to VectorChord, adds map view, in-app notifications & locked folders

Immich 1.133 introduces a major backend upgrade by replacing the deprecated pgvecto.rs database extension with VectorChord, leading to performance improvements across most database functions. Alongside this core enhancement, users can now receive real-time alerts through a newly added in-app notification system.

The web interface now offers a map view that displays the location of all photos and videos within an album, making it easier to organize and browse media collections. Security features have also expanded, with the release of locked folders. These folders can be protected with a personal PIN code; on mobile devices, users have the additional option of biometric authentication for enhanced usability.

While the web platform gains Google Cast support for sending images, videos, and slideshows to Chromecast and similar devices, this functionality is slated to arrive on mobile apps in future updates. The update also boosts accessibility with native support for right to left languages in the web interface. Additionally, users will notice faster timeline loading, and other enhancements and bug fixes on the web and mobile applications.

I absolutely did

I know that "technically" Immich can run on Windows. But the developer goes out of his way to strongly discourage running it on Windows. In fact, this is literally what it says when you follow the link you posted: "Running Immich on Windows can be frustrating and there are lots of ways it can go wrong."

This project is amazing. It works very well when self hosted, with the community being very helpful and responsive. I love where this is going and eagerly await the stable release coming this year.

Increasingly it is becoming a really good alternative to the App-Which-Must-Not-Be-Named.

Yeah, Immich sounds good. I wish it were available for Windows, I'd like to try it.
