WhatsApp introduces Advanced Chat Privacy to block people from exporting your chat history

WhatsApp has introduced a new privacy feature called Advanced Chat Privacy, enhancing user control over chat content. This feature, available for both individual and group chats, aims to prevent the extraction of chat content outside the platform. With Advanced Chat Privacy enabled, users can block others from exporting chats, auto-downloading media, and utilizing messages for AI functionalities.

This added layer of security is particularly useful in sensitive group discussions, such as health support groups or community organizing. Users can activate this setting by tapping on the chat name and selecting Advanced Chat Privacy. This is the initial version of the feature, with plans for further enhancements to provide additional protections. The feature is currently being rolled out to all users with the latest version of the app.

This makes me reconsider WhatsApp for its network effects, of course I would use it as a last resort option like I do today with Telegram.
