postmarketOS March update adds GNOME 48 integration, COSMIC Desktop & new device ports
The postmarketOS team released a summary of new features added in March, including updates on device ports and community activities. The Linux After Dark podcast hosts tested postmarketOS on devices like the ASUS Transformer Pad 3G, PinePhone Pro, and several Chromebooks. A major highlight is the NGI0 grant to improve Collation and Internationalization (i18n) support in musl libc, benefiting postmarketOS, Alpine Linux, and other musl-based systems.
In other updates, GNOME 48 has been integrated into Alpine edge, bringing dynamic triple buffering and improved mobile window management. The Epiphany browser and Nautilus file manager have seen enhancements, and the COSMIC desktop environment is now available in Alpine and postmarketOS.
New device ports include the Amlogic P241 reference board and Samsung Galaxy S10+. Initial camera support was added for the OnePlus 6 and MSM89x7 devices, advancing hardware compatibility. The community has also begun self-hosting the Matrix/IRC communication bridge and stabilized the GitLab CI pipeline.
