Microsoft tests new Copilot podcast feature for AI-generated conversations on any topic

Microsoft is now reportedly testing a newly announced Copilot Podcast feature that allows users to generate podcasts on almost any topic or from user-provided content. The tool formats podcasts as conversations between two synthetic hosts, similar to Google’s NotebookLM "Audio Overview" feature.

Users can input their own material or select a topic, and Copilot will create a script and synthesize audio using neural text-to-speech tech. The playback is interactive, enabling users to pause and ask questions, which updates the conversation in real-time. Announced on April 4, this feature offers personalized podcast content on diverse topics such as travel and academic research.

Other alternatives like Google’s NotebookLM and Spotify have explored similar tools, and while initial tests show that audio quality is slightly below Google's standard, it still marks a significant advancement in multimodal experiences. The Copilot Podcast feature is expected to launch in the coming weeks, with more extensive access planned for later in 2025 across enterprise, mobile, and via API.

5$ to whoever can name anybody who wanted this. What purpose does this serve? There are more than enough AI slop channels on YouTube...why does anyone need this? And it's supposed to be able to create podcasts based on facts, research and history? What about hallucination? I won't even begin to talk about altering facts due to corporate greed/corruption of government.
