Microsoft adds new features to Copilot, including Memory, Actions, Deep Research and more
Microsoft is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a major update to Microsoft Copilot, adding a Memory feature that allows it to remember user preferences, interests, and details like birthdays, with users able to manage or disable this function. The AI assistant will also introduce Actions, a feature similar to OpenAI's Operator, which allows Copilot to perform web-based tasks like booking tickets and making purchases, while the Shopping Assistant helps users research products and find discounts.
The update also expands Copilot Vision from the web to Windows and mobile apps, allowing it to analyze on-screen content and interact with app files and camera images. The new Deep Research capability enhances productivity by analyzing large volumes of documents or online data, and Copilot Search integrates generative AI with Bing for a mix of traditional and generative search experiences.
Additional features include the ability to generate podcast-style audio explanations based on research and a new Pages feature for organizing notes and documents into an organized canvas, similar to Claude Artifacts. Microsoft also teased a new Copilot Avatar feature, allowing users to create expressive digital characters, including an animated Clippy. These updates are beginning to roll out, with further enhancements expected over the coming weeks and months.
