Max cracks down on password sharing with $8 fee for extra members outside the household
HBO Max is the latest streaming service to crack down on password sharing, introducing an $8 monthly fee for each additional member outside the household, regardless of the main account’s subscription tier. This move follows similar steps by Netflix and Disney+, aiming to limit account sharing across different households. The fee applies to all subscription plans, and extra members will have their own accounts, limited to streaming on one device at a time.
These members will still have the full benefits of the plan, including video quality and offline downloads. The platform has also launched a profile transfer feature, allowing new members to import their watch history and preferences. While these new rules take effect, live sports and news content remain temporarily free to stream.
Plans to introduce this new policy were first reported a year ago, and it's also worth noting that, for now, each subscription is limited to just one additional member.

Yep, Time-Warner-Discovery is still the top dog in the enshitification industry. And we must thank David Zaslav for this (and for his $52M compensation when the group has lost dozen of $B and fired dozen of thousand people), because ruining a brand as strong has HBO or Mad Max in just few years, that's something to be proud of! But more mergers are planned, since there is still DC Comics and Looney Tunes to kill (as it has started with classic Looney Tunes).
