Google NotebookLM expands audio overviews to 50+ languages, enhancing multilingual support
Google has expanded the Audio Overviews feature in NotebookLM to support over 50 languages, moving beyond its original English-only limitation. Users can now receive podcast-style summaries of their uploaded materials—including documents, slides, charts, and YouTube transcripts—in Spanish, French, Hindi, Turkish, Korean, and more.
Audio Overviews generate conversational deep dives between two AI-powered hosts to help users digest complex information quickly, without needing to review content manually. Built using Google's Gemini language model, the updated feature processes multilingual content, allowing users to upload mixed-language sources in a single notebook. Users can select a preferred output language for the summaries via the Settings Output Language option within NotebookLM. The interactive chat mode with the AI hosts remains in English only and is still in beta.
The expanded multilingual capability is available to users on multiple Google Workspace editions—including Business Starter, Nonprofits, Education Fundamentals, and NotebookLM Plus. The paid Plus tier introduces support for five times larger notebooks and additional Audio Overviews. NotebookLM also recently added features like citations in users' notes and the ability to discover sources.
