Opera Developer update enhances Aria AI with natural voice interaction features
Opera has upgraded its built-in AI assistant, Aria, making it possible to have natural voice conversations. Users can now speak to Aria to request information or generate images effortlessly through an interface similar to ChatGPT's Advanced Voice Mode or Perplexity's recently revamped Voice Mode.
To start chatting, simply update Opera Developer, click on Aria’s icon, and grant microphone access if it’s your first time using the feature. The assistant now offers real-time feedback during interactions, showing when it is listening or processing a response, and users can ask follow-up questions without needing to reactivate the microphone. After the conversation, a text transcript is automatically created for reference. Additionally, the update supports AI-powered image creation through verbal prompts.
The voice input is powered by OpenAI’s Whisper for precise speech recognition, while Google’s Wavenet delivers lifelike responses. This builds on Aria’s existing ability to read answers aloud, improving accessibility for all users.
