Netflix adds HDR10+ streaming support
Netflix has introduced HDR10 Plus support for its Premium plan subscribers, allowing Samsung TV owners to experience enhanced 4K HDR quality. This move caters to Samsung's lack of Dolby Vision support, which uses dynamic metadata for optimized viewing. HDR10 Plus, similar to Dolby Vision, adjusts tone mapping on a scene-by-scene basis but avoids Dolby's royalty fees. Previously, Samsung users could only access static HDR10 on Netflix, which applies uniform tone mapping throughout content.
HDR10 Plus, initially adopted by Prime Video, is now also available on Disney+, Apple TV, and Netflix. Other brands like Panasonic, Hisense, and TCL offer HDR10 Plus compatibility, though many also support Dolby Vision.
Netflix's HDR10 Plus support requires the AV1 video codec, which is compatible with most TVs manufactured in the last five years. The streaming giant plans to extend HDR10 Plus to all HDR titles in its library by the end of 2025.
