Godot 4.4 brings native Jolt Physics, real-time editing, enhanced XR & more

The release of Godot 4.4 brings several key updates to the open-source game engine, including the integration of Jolt Physics as a native feature. The update enables real-time interactive in-game editing and enhances XR support for Android. Ubershader support is added to improve shader handling, and 3D physics interactions are smoother with new interpolation support. AgX tone mapping enhances lighting and color rendering, and various performance optimizations improve both 2D and 3D workflows.

Further enhancements include Linux support for device cameras, aligning with macOS and iOS, and an update to .NET scripting for .NET 8.0 compatibility. The Betsy texture compressor speeds up import processes, while the Inspector now allows users to pin favorite nodes for better management.

Additional features include a Picture-in-Picture camera preview, a Metal rendering backend for improved macOS performance, and Typed Dictionary support in GDScript. The update also introduces new functionalities like physics-based 3D object snapping, VR compatibility for the Godot editor on Oculus devices, and a transition from Mono to .NET for improved C# support and Android compatibility.

This updates, as all other Godot updates, have been long-awaited but worth the wait since it's massive! 3k commits from 500 contributors, it's clearly not a projects that is slowing down but rather evolving steady, which is really valuable because other big game engines don't seem to treat users with as much love.
