YouTube enhances DreamScreen in Shorts with Google Veo 2 AI Model for backgrounds creation

YouTube has enhanced its Dream Screen feature for Shorts by integrating Google DeepMind's Veo 2 generative AI model. Veo 2, introduced last year, is designed to compete with OpenAI's Sora in video generation. Dream Screen, which was initially launched as an experimental feature in 2023, allows users to create AI-generated backgrounds for their Shorts using text prompts.

The integration of Veo 2 improves video generation speed and detail, enabling the production of high-quality videos in various styles and subjects, with resolutions up to 4K and durations lasting several minutes. This model understands human movement and real-world physics, allowing for natural animations. Users can also specify styles, lenses, or cinematic effects for their videos. Additionally, Veo 2 supports the creation of standalone video clips for Shorts, complete with SynthID watermarks for transparency.

These new features are being rolled out in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with plans for broader availability in the future.
