GIMP 3.0 RC3 introduces stability boost, enhanced Wayland and expanded file format support
GIMP 3.0 has reached its third and potentially final release candidate stage (RC3). The update incorporates GTK 3.24.48 and introduces key enhancements focused on stability and functionality. Wayland users benefit from xdg_foreign v2 support, preventing freezes on KDE/Wayland systems, while image processing sees advancements with a new method for non-destructive filter stacking.
Additional improvements include a fix for the multi-threading stability issue, improved script readability with Script-Fu's flexible named-argument syntax, and expanded file format capabilities with support for 16-bit LAB PSD imports and enhanced CMYK PSD exports. GIMP now officially supports the AppImage format for Linux, facilitating a standardized distribution method.
Other enhancements include Google Drive integration, updated icons for Right-to-Left languages, auto-generated file chooser buttons for plug-in developers, and optimizations in GEGL 0.4.54 for improved image processing capabilities.
