Slack gains agentic coding capabilities with Anthropic’s Claude Code integration
Anthropic has introduced the ability for users to delegate coding tasks directly to Claude Code from within Slack. This update, currently in beta as a research preview, streamlines the process of moving context from Slack discussions into coding sessions.
Building on the existing Claude app for Slack, users can now tag Claude in any Slack conversation involving engineering work, such as bug reports or feature requests. When Claude is mentioned, it reviews the message and automatically initiates a Claude Code session if the content is determined to be a coding task. Users also have the option to manually instruct Claude to handle requests as coding tasks.
To improve workflow efficiency, Claude gathers recent messages from relevant Slack channels and threads to populate context for the coding session. It then selects the appropriate repository to run the task based on the user's authenticated repositories linked to Claude Code on the web. While the session is active, Claude posts status updates back into the originating Slack thread. Once completed, users receive a direct link to the full coding session, including an option to open a pull request and review the implemented changes.
