The PlayStation Portal handheld now supports cloud streaming for PS Plus Premium members
PlayStation has announced that its PlayStation Portal handheld now supports cloud streaming for PlayStation Plus Premium members after a public beta that began last year. The feature lets users stream select PS5 games, even including some already owned titles (similar to Xbox’s recent approach), directly from Sony’s servers without needing a local console or Remote Play. Unlike before, when the device relied entirely on Remote Play to connect to a your personal PS5 console, it can now function independently, requiring only a stable internet connection and a PlayStation Plus Premium plan priced at $159.99 per year or $17.99 per month.
At launch, thousands of PS5 titles are available for streaming, including Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Fortnite, Grand Theft Auto V, and Resident Evil 4. Hundreds more from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog can also be accessed directly from the cloud.
The update also introduces a redesigned menu with tabs for Remote Play, cloud streaming, and search, making it easier to switch between different play modes. Other enhancements include 3D audio support, accessibility options, access to in-game stores, a new passcode system, and the ability to accept invites and join multiplayer sessions directly from the Portal.
