OpenAI launches ChatGPT for Teachers with free access and FERPA compliance
OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT for Teachers, a specialized workspace designed to support classroom tasks and educator workflows. Verified teachers and school leaders get full access to ChatGPT 5.1 Auto with unlimited messages, file uploads, search, connectors, and image generation at no cost until June 2027. The platform includes educator oriented onboarding, admin controls, and prompts tailored to teaching needs.
The workspace enables collaboration between teachers and administrators, allowing them to work on shared projects and create custom GPTs for specific classroom goals. It also integrates with Google Drive and Microsoft 365 so educators can import files for lesson planning, grading, or data analysis.
ChatGPT for Teachers uses education grade privacy and security aligned with FERPA, and it does not retain any student data for model training. OpenAI says 150,000 teachers and staff across U.S. districts already have access, noting growing adoption across K to 12, early childhood and higher education.

The only AI teachers need, is AI that detect work of other AIs used by students or plagiarism, which is basically the same thing.
Thing is those AI plagiarism detectors have been proven to be quite ineffective 😅
They have too many false positives. That's why they can not do it in autopilot. Teachers will have to check manually all flagged papers. Still, it takes less time if they have to check only flagged ones.
