MX Linux 25 Infinity debuts with Debian 13, KDE Wayland, systemd/SysVinit options

MX Linux 25 “Infinity” is now available, based on Debian 13 “Trixie.” The standard edition includes the Linux 6.12 LTS kernel, while the KDE Plasma and Advanced Hardware Support editions use the Liquorix 6.16 kernel. It comes in Xfce 4.20, KDE Plasma 6.3.6, and Fluxbox 1.3.7 editions.

The Xfce and Fluxbox editions let users choose between systemd or sysvinit, while KDE Plasma now defaults to Wayland for improved graphical performance and security. The KDE edition also adds new root actions and service menus in Dolphin and replaces TLP with power-profiles-daemon to fix power widget issues.

MX Tools has been ported to Qt 6, and the new mx-updater replaces apt-notifier for more reliable updates. The installer adds a “replace existing Linux installation” option and support for 64-bit UEFI Secure Boot. Other updates include support for Debian’s deb822 format, expanded Fluxbox customization, refreshed mx-ease and mx-matcha themes, new Conky options, an improved Whisker Menu in Xfce, an updated Nvidia installer, and stronger encryption support through systemd-cryptsetup.
