GitHub unveils Agent HQ, a central hub for AI coding agents from top providers

GitHub is introducing Agent HQ, a move designed to create an open ecosystem for AI coding agents on its platform. This announcement, made at GitHub Universe, positions Agent HQ as a single environment uniting agents from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Cognition, xAI, and other providers. Over the coming months, these agents will become available through paid GitHub Copilot subscriptions, allowing users to access multiple AI models from within their existing workflows.

To power this new agent landscape, GitHub is launching a suite of features starting with Mission Control. This interface serves as a centralized command center for assigning, steering, and tracking the activity of multiple agents. Mission Control is accessible across GitHub, Visual Studio Code, the mobile app, and the command-line interface, giving users unified oversight of all AI-driven tasks.

Building on this, Visual Studio Code extends these capabilities by adding tools to plan and customize agent behavior. Supporting enterprise needs, Agent HQ includes agentic code review, a dedicated control plane to govern AI usage, and dashboards to monitor the metrics and impact of agent activity. As an initial rollout, Copilot Pro+ subscribers can now test OpenAI Codex in Visual Studio Code Insiders, marking the first integration of partner agents directly into the editor.
