Fedora 43 launches with GNOME 49, Anaconda WebUI installer, and latest Python
Fedora Linux 43 is now available, bringing updates to Fedora Workstation, Fedora KDE, and other Spins based on the latest community fork of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The release delivers broad package upgrades and system refinements.
Fedora Workstation 43 includes GNOME 49, now using Wayland as the default display server after dropping X11 packages, though X11 apps still run within Wayland. GNOME 49 introduces a redesigned Calendar app, better keyboard navigation, and new accessibility options. Showtime replaces GNOME Videos (Totem) as the default video player, and Papers replaces Evince as the document viewer. The update also adds HDR wallpapers, multi-touch support for remote desktop, lock screen media controls, and improved emoji rendering through COLR fonts for Noto Color Emoji. Meanwhile, Fedora KDE introduces Plasma 6.4 with new per-workspace tiling options, accessibility improvements, and better drawing tablet support.
The new Anaconda WebUI installer, built with React and Cockpit, becomes the default across all Spins, offering guided partitioning and integrated help while replacing the old GTK-based installer. Fedora 43 includes Python 3.14 with performance gains and improved error messages, support for the Hare programming language, a larger 2GB boot partition, and automatic updates enabled by default in Fedora Kinoite.
