Valve expands SteamOS beta to third-party devices, starting with Lenovo Legion Go S

Valve has officially confirmed a public beta release of SteamOS, expanding its availability from the Steam Deck to other devices, with the recently introduced Lenovo Legion Go S being the first third-party device officially licensed to ship with it.

The company is working to ensure full compatibility with the Lenovo Legion Go S and improve performance on other handheld devices, while keeping all the capabilities of SteamOS, including desktop mode that allows users to install other kinds of software besides games.

The expansion of SteamOS is expected to boost Linux-based gaming, benefiting from the popularity of distributions like Bazzite. Additionally, NVIDIA's GeForce NOW is set to support the Steam Deck fully, potentially with a native app compatible with general SteamOS installations.
