Trump's executive order lifts TikTok ban for 75 days until new US ownership is secured

The TikTok ban, initially enforced on January 19, has now been temporarily lifted for 75 days by an executive order signed by President Trump on his inauguration day. This order includes a clause that protects U.S. companies from prosecution if they provide services to TikTok during this suspension period. However, legal experts have raised concerns about the order's compliance with existing laws, which could leave companies like Apple vulnerable to fines if they reinstate TikTok on their platforms.

Despite Trump's announcement and assurance of legal immunity, tech giants such as Apple and Google remain hesitant to restore TikTok to their app stores due to the lack of formal legal documentation, meaning the app still can't be downloaded if you didn't have it previously installed. The executive order allows for a suspension of up to 90 days if there is significant progress in separating TikTok from ByteDance ownership, but this requires legally binding agreements that have not yet been presented to Congress.

Meanwhile, China has shown some willingness to discuss ownership issues, and Trump has suggested a potential 50/50 joint venture between U.S. and Chinese entities, though this has been met with caution.

TikTok is a cesspool but I choose not to use it and I am responsible enough to make sure my young children stay off it (and all social media), I don't believe it should be banned much like all social media which I hate, I simply will not use it.

So, nothing has been learnt for a whole year when ByteDance repeatably saying that selling TikTok US is unfair to the US market, and the whole story need to be fixed in 2.5 months using unlawful means? That's a strange feeling to feel like eight years back...
