PowerToys 0.88 adds a new ZoomIt utility for screen zooming, annotation, and recording

Microsoft PowerToys 0.88 has introduced a new utility called ZoomIt, designed for screen zooming, annotation, and recording, which is particularly useful for technical presentations and demos. Originally a part of the Sysinternals Suite suite, ZoomIt will still receive updates from Sysinternals despite its integration into PowerToys. A fun fact is that ZoomIt was originally developed by Mark Russinovich in 1996, so the tool is technically around 29 years old.

This update also removes the deprecated Video Conference Mute module and brings enhancements in .NET 9.0.1, improving stability for PowerToys Run and other tools using WPF. FancyZones now allows the Workspaces Editor to be snapped, thereby improving window management capabilities.

The update also includes improvements to Advanced Paste, such as JSON format validation and better accessibility, along with expanded image format support in the Image to Text feature. Mouse Without Borders has fixed a clipboard issue in Service mode, and PowerToys Run has seen refinements like resolving a OneNote plugin crash and enhancing the Calculator plugin. Peek improvements offer better visibility and new features in File Explorer add-ons, while Registry Preview and Quick Accent have received updates for better functionality and expanded character support. The Settings UI has been enhanced for better accessibility and clearer labels, with further improvements detailed in the official changelog.
