Netflix reaches 300 million global users and celebrates it with yet another price increase
Netflix has achieved a record-breaking addition of 19 million new subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2024, bringing its global user base to 302 million. Alongside this expansion, the company has announced shiny new price increases in the U.S., Canada, Portugal, and Argentina (though other regions are likely to follow soon).
The standard ad-free plan will now cost $17.99 per month, up from $15.49, while the ad-supported plan will rise by $1 to $7.99 monthly. The premium tier, which includes 4K video, will see a $2 increase to $24.99 per month. Netflix is also introducing a new "Extra Member with Ads" plan, allowing ad-supported users to add a member outside their household in 10 of the 12 countries offering ad-supported options.
These pricing changes will take effect during the subscriber's next billing cycle, following the last adjustment in October 2023. Despite the price hikes, Netflix's substantial subscriber growth does not seem to be diminishing exponentially, as revealed in its Q4 2024 earnings report.

Oh look more sheer corporate greed. Exclusive rights on digital streaming should be illegal as a kind of monopoly.
Just read a book or torrent the films and shows, these people don't need or deserve your money, crooks the lot of them.
Price hikes are understandable, since the only limit to growth seems to be the sky. $8 to watch ads is tough and doesn't seem to be the best way to earn more new users, but I'm certainly wrong. So it's just another good example of the enshittification of streaming services, and it's just the very first of 2025.
