Meta drops fact-checking program on Facebook and Instagram for Community Notes

Meta is officially ending its fact-checking partnership program on Facebook and Instagram, introducing a major shift in content moderation with the launch of a Community Notes program inspired by X. The policy update seeks to address user complaints about over-censorship and slow account restriction resolutions.

Automated moderation will continue for severe policy violations like terrorism and child exploitation, while community members will play a larger role in flagging less severe issues. The Community Notes feature, launching in the U.S. soon, will use subtle labels to provide context without intrusive warnings and will require consensus from diverse users to mark content as misleading.

Meta's new policy aims to empower users and reduce bias, drawing from the community-driven moderation model seen under Elon Musk's leadership at X. This update will lift restrictions on topics such as immigration and gender identity, allowing political content to return to user feeds with a personalized approach.

They are just doing it to save money and not be a target for Trump to target them. Why there was fact checking to begin with is because the government pressured Zuck into it though. So many people are so brainrotted by ideology these days they can't see the clear reality of corporate greed and government totalitarianism.

Too little too late I feel for those people that got rid of their accounts with Facebook and Instagram due to have their free speech silenced.

Just in time for them to rollout AI bots posing as real people.

Now, this comment's probably gonna go down in flames, but I have a feeling that this is simply the Zuck sucking up to Trump and trying to get on his good side, especially after he won his second term in office.

Nevertheless, this is quite an interesting move coming from Meta, taking inspiration from Twitter (and YouTube, eventually). Less censorship, yes, but in the wrong hands, it could lead to more misinformation... and maybe become a meme. But even with Facebook now being a "dead" platform that's recently surrendered to the forces of AI, I can't exactly say for sure... We shall see.

Translation: People on one side of the political spectrum got mad because they were getting called out for lies and stirring up hate, but they won the election, so Facebook wants to get on their good side by explicitly saying (1) they won't call out the lies anymore, (2), they'll allow more vitriol against whole classes of people and (3) they'll mode their "moderation" to a state where the attorney general has an axe to grind and members of various marginalized groups won't be safe living there.

Yep, that sounds just like a translation from CNN or MSNBC.

So let's hear the Fox News-translated version, then.

Fox News sucks almost as bad. I quit paying attention to all the mainstream propaganda.... I mean new outlets years ago.
