Snapchat unveils Snap OS, enhanced AR, AI tools, and redesigned interface in major update
Snapchat has launched a series of significant updates that include a new Snap OS, a redesigned interface, enhanced Snap Map functionality, and augmented reality (AR) capabilities. The new Snap OS powers the latest Spectacles, offering intuitive AR interactions through hand gestures and voice commands. It also integrates the Snap Spatial Engine to bring Lenses into the real world in 3D and provides developers with tools like Lens Studio 5.0 and the Interaction Kit, alongside cloud-hosted AI models developed in partnership with OpenAI.
The updates also bring new AI-driven features to Lens Studio, such as Easy Lens and the GenAI Suite, which allow users to create Lenses using descriptions, body morphing, animation blending, and video-to-3D conversion. Additionally, creators benefit from simplified content creation tools, public profile toggles, and the Snap Star Collab Studio for brand partnerships. AI-powered chat features include My AI, which can interpret images and translate menus, while Snapchat+ subscribers get access to AI-generated Memories and selfies.
The platform also revealed one of its biggest app redesigns in recent years, which focuses on core functions like chat, camera, and Stories, integrating Stories into conversations for seamless content discovery. New social features include time zone display and Snap Mail to enhance global connectivity. Expanded Bitmoji customizations now feature collaborations with brands like Prada and Crocs, offering users more personalized options.
