Retro MySpace-like social network SpaceHey reaches 1 million users
SpaceHey, a retro online social network inspired by MySpace, has just reached one million users. Launched in 2020 by German web developer Anton Röhm, the platform pays homage to the iconic social media site from the mid-2000s. Despite its MySpace-like appearance, SpaceHey is not officially affiliated with MySpace.
This milestone is particularly notable given that Röhm was only 18 when he created SpaceHey. Currently, he balances university studies and an internship at a software company while continuously enhancing the platform's performance, stability, usability, and security.
In his announcement, Röhm emphasized SpaceHey's unique approach: “One million people from all over the world have used SpaceHey so far — an independently run platform that does not track you and does not show you personalized feeds nor ads. My mission is not to become another big social network like Facebook or Twitter — but rather trying to be different.”
To commemorate this achievement, Röhm has released a special 1 million merch drop available in the SpaceHey online shop. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to improve the platform, including developing new features and enhancing measures to prevent spam and harmful content.
