Slack will delete content older than one year for Free plan users starting August 26th

Slack has announced a major policy update regarding message and file storage for users on its free plan. Starting August 26, 2024, content older than one year will be deleted from free Slack workspaces, users who want to keep access to content beyond this period will need to upgrade to a paid plan.

As part of these adjustments, free workspaces will still have access to the last 90 days of message history and file storage. However, any content older than one year will be systematically deleted on a rolling basis. This change will not impact users on paid plans such as Slack Pro, which will continue to follow their existing data retention policies.

Users who decide to upgrade to a paid plan after the policy takes effect will not be able to recover any deleted content. They have several options: upgrading to a paid plan, applying for a discount through the Slack for Nonprofits program if eligible, or exporting data from public channels before the policy changes take place.
