WhatsApp Tests New Meta AI Feature for Photo Analysis and Editing via Text Prompts

WhatsApp is testing a new feature that uses Meta AI to analyze and edit photos. This feature will allow Meta AI to identify objects and provide context for photos uploaded by users. The AI chatbot can also edit photos based on text prompts provided by users, allowing them to make changes to their photos directly within the chat interface.

A new button within WhatsApp will enable users to manually share their photos with Meta AI for analysis and editing. User control over photos is maintained, as they will have the option to delete their photos at any time. This new photo analysis and editing feature is still in development and is not yet available to beta testers.

Meta AI, was introduced in September last year, and it debuted on WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger in April 2024, featuring AI image generation and chatbot capabilities.

this sucks, my dad already gave my face to an AI without my consent. This would be my breakpoint to just stop using this app. why end-to-end when your friend/families would gave your stuff away without the your permission anyway?

The problem is that your entire social network uses whatsapp, and the difficulty in making them all start using something different is gigantic. Whether we like it or not, whatsapp is very entrenched in our lives, and there's almost nothing we can do to stop it.
