WhatsApp beta to introduce on-device voice message transcriptions

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is rolling out a new voice message transcription feature to select beta testers as part of the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.15.5 update, available through the Google Play Store. This feature is particularly beneficial for users with hearing impairments and those in noisy environments where listening to audio messages is difficult, or for those who just want to facilitate the quick reading of lengthy voice notes.

The transcriptions are generated on-device to maintain user privacy, with language support currently available in English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Hindi. Initially, it is being tested in specific countries and requires an additional data package for both incoming and outgoing voice messages.

The transcription feature is gradually being extended to more beta testers and suggests the possibility of additional language support in the future.
