Open source navigation app Organic Maps brings better address search & more POI categories
Organic Maps, a free and open-source navigation app leveraging OpenStreetMap (OSM) data, has rolled out a new Android version for July. This release incorporates OSM data updated as of July 2.
Key enhancements include an improved address search in the USA, utilizing US Census TIGER data. Interaction with the map has been refined: a single tap now selects any point, while a long tap toggles full-screen mode. Additionally, users can restore accidentally deleted bookmarks.
The update also enhances the world overview map by displaying major roads earlier and provides more categories for selected points of interest (POIs). It also addresses issues with GPX file imports from WhatsApp.
Furthermore, the new version fixes text rendering for multiple languages, including Indic, Arabic, Thai, Lao, Khmer, Myanmar, Tibetan, Hangul, and Hebrew scripts.
