Figma introduces new AI features, UI redesign, a Figma Slides app, Dev Mode updates & more

During the Config 2024 conference, Figma introduced a significant overhaul of its platform with a new UI redesign, incorporating several new AI capabilities, upgraded Dev Mode functionalities, and a new Figma Slides application. The redesigned Figma Editor, now known as UI3, features a more intuitive interface with clearer icons, optional labels, and rounded corners. Users can customize their workspace with resizable panels, and a new "anything" button offers quick access to AI tools.

Figma AI, currently in beta, aims to improve workflows speed by generating UI mocks, creating images from text prompts, organizing layers, and removing image backgrounds. It also includes text generation, translation, and visual search functionalities (similar to Pinterest, but in this case you can quickly add the found elements to your design).

Dev Mode has also been upgraded with new views, statuses, and Code Connect features to facilitate the design handoff process. Key additions include Design Status, Ready for Dev View, Focus View, and Code Connect, which links designs directly to the relevant code.

Additionally, the companuy has finally launched a new decent alternative to other presentation makers like Google Slides, Microsoft PowerPoint, or Canva, called Figma Slides. The new platform provides advanced tools for creating presentations with hundreds of custom templates and collaborative features such as chat, live polls, and co-presenting controls. It also integrates seamlessly with the main Figma app, offering significant flexibility and interactivity in design and easy integration of prototypes into slides. This new app will be available on both free and paid plans, priced from $3 to $5, starting in early 2025.

There are many more changes and quality of life improvements to features like Auto Layout, Responsive Viewer, and FigJam, which you can check in detail in the official announcement here.
