Character.AI launches Character Call for real-time multilingual AI conversations

character.ai has unveiled Character Call, a new feature that facilitates real-time conversations with AI avatars. Previously, user interactions with Character.AI avatars were limited to text-based communications, but now users will be able to communicate through voice calls with the various available AI avatars, similar to other alternatives like Replika.

Character.AI introduced "Character Voice" a few months ago, enabling users to engage in one-on-one voice conversations with avatars. This feature includes over a million AI-generated voices, developed by both the Character.AI team and its user community. Initially available only in English, the new Character Call feature now supports multiple languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese.

Character Call's Easy Call feature enables users to start conversations with their chosen avatars directly through the app. The company envisions several applications for this feature, such as language practice, job interview preparation, role-playing with AI-generated characters, while ensuring interactions remain non-explicit and constructive. Both Character Voice and Character Call are free within the Character.AI app.
